Okawa - Sanke

Superb Okawa Sanke here, raised up from Tosai. It has done so well. The bloodline of this fish is Momotaro, and this is the body line that we see. Momotaro Sanke originate from Matsunosuke Sanke, so you get this more elongate body form, but one capable of really big growth. It was just an 18cm Tosai when I started.

The skin quality level is quite immense. This fish has tortured me a little bit with the sumi because the type that it is, again deriving more from the Momotaro side, is quite a leery one. It does not seem to be reacting well in my water. Possibly getting it outside into one of the different ponds would help it. It would be much better now going off to a new home because space here is just too limited.

There has been sumi in areas here. It makes a bit of progress, then summer comes again and the intense light sends it into hiding. There is a lot more to come from this growth-wise, and a lot more to come from it volume-wise. The sumi is a bit of a gamble, exactly what it is going to do, in what pond and where. Certainly somewhere down in the south of England would be very helpful to it with how the water is. But overall, it is certainly going to make an impression in any pond, and even just for its quality, look, the skin is absolutely gleaming. I would say it has still got a lot to give.
