24 Of My Best Taniguchi Kawarigoi — Growing Included

Taniguchi is the man behind Golden Corn, and he's set himself a new challenge: one-of-a-kind Kawarigoi that grow jumbo. These are the very first offspring from that project — a phenomenal 96cm Ginrin Matsukawabake crossed with a Kikokuryu out of the Dainichi Botan bloodline.

I've hand-picked 24 of the very best from the batch, and they're live now.

No two are the same. Wagoi, Doitsu, Ginrin, Doitsu Ginrin, Kumonryu, metallics, big scale — the variation coming out of a single pairing is remarkable, and it's all explainable once you go back through the bloodline. Most importantly, the growth genetics are properly there. Both parents are big fish, and you can already see it in the body lines on these.

All 24 are listed with the same starting bid, so the fish itself decides where it goes, not the price it opened at.

Every fish includes a 2 month initial growing period with me, plus a guaranteed option to extend growing through to the end of December 2026 at £180.00 per fish — and that isn't due until the end of the current growing period. At that point I'll assess each fish and, as a minimum, offer overwintering through to spring. Any further growing beyond December will be offered case by case.

That's the part I'd focus on. Getting access to my grow-on fish isn't something that comes up often, and these are the fish I'm most excited about right now. One of Taniguchi's new creations, growing on with me — I'm not sure there's much better than that.

Because here's the thing — this is a first generation. Taniguchi has already spawned the pairing again this year, which tells you he's serious about where this is heading. Whatever these fish become, whatever this project turns into over the next few years, these 24 are the very start of it. There won't be another chance to own first-generation fish from it.

And they're going to change. That's the bit I find so exciting. The Kikokuryu-based ones look dark and unassuming now and will transform as they grow. The metallics will deepen. Patterns that aren't even visible yet will start breaking through. These are fish you watch, not fish you look at once.
